I'm an audio purist and really relished the idea of using a signal processor, let alone God forbid eq'ing anything. After one session of using this product, I have changed my mind because the results were so fantastic.I had owned the Alpine 9887 head unit for about one month.I had tuned it as well as I thought I could with the time alignment and the crossovers. The unit itself is in three-way mode so that the tweeters, mids and lows all receive separate signals. It is a sweet setup with Vifa ring radiator tweeters, Polk Audio mids and a JL Audio sub. These are all flat drivers, so I expected that I would not have to eq anything.I did find that even though I had a great soundstage and an excellent overall sonic experience(using a 4 channel vacuum tube Butler TBD amp), I could tell that something was lacking.

I tune with my ears so I couldn't tell you what exactly the problem was, but there was an issue.I liked what I was hearing, but uh uhh, not enough cowbell or something. My standards are high.I have the pleasure to enjoy ruler-flat loudspeakers in my home and in my friend's home driven by classic tube and solid state gear.I know what kind of sound I am after.I want big and puffy with lots of syrup and plenty of crunchy.I want to be able to see my sounds and I need it to sound airy, open and natural, otherwise it hurts my teeth to listen to a less-than-perfect stereo system.

So when I couldn't possibly take it anymore that mobile audio system sounded imperfect, I felt the need to take it to the next level and that meant trying out this product. With a laptop running Windows XP, it was very, very easy to setup.I aligned it for the driver's seat and carefully moved the microphone for all of the measurements. It took less than one hour and was about as fun as watching a progress bar over and over again could be.I don't really know what this thing was doing.Anyways the results were unmistakably remarkable. It really clarified that low frequency problem I was having and gave me even more attack on everything. The soundstage widened a bit and it didn't sound harsh or unnatural.
Because I need my frequencies equally represented and I am not a bass fanatic, this unit delivered on giving me quality bass response.Nice and tight and it sounds like it's all up front.I would suppose that the average listener who enjoys their "bumps" would be disappointed, but for an audiophile, it was like as if a magician had fixed the frequencies of my system.Almost every disk in my collection is completely listenable now and I don't have to avoid putting in certain ones because my system's flaws would show up.

My system isn't flawless. There are a few things I would like to upgrade and I know that some interior enhancements would make a difference to dampen vibrations.Anyways there's nothing I can do about the shape of the interior, the glass, ect. This product took what I got and made it quite listenable. That's what I wanted out of it and I knew that my head unit doesn't have nearly as many tuning parameters to do what this thing can do and some of those tuning parameters like tuning the phase in conjunction with the time alignment would not have been possible if I did not use this magic microphone system. All in all, if you are a serious sound nut like me, then you have no alternative but to try this out.For some people I imagine it will make a night and day difference to their sound systems.I'm really glad it tamed my system so easily.

Sony In-Dash CD Player (CDX-M620) Review

Sony In-Dash CD Player
Average Reviews:

The guy at my local audio store (we're friends) recommends these over JVC ELCHAMELEONS because the black panel is removable.ALWAYS remove it when parked.Thieves aren't dumb and figured out that the black panels where a stereo should be is actually the stereo.I have freinds who bought JVCs when they first came out, but they don't have removable faceplates and were all stolen within a year (3 friends=3 stereos). The sony looks just as cool when off, but when on you have to drop down the front panel to access the controls whereas on the JVC they pop out of the front "Active Black Panel" (Sony's name for it).You can close up the controls on either of these when the stereo is on, but sometimes the JVC will shut itself off. Both of these are awesome sounding stereos, but if you want it to last, buy the sony.Car stereos are my thing, and this is a primo head unit.

Terk Xmdcpk Xm Direct Chrysler Smart Digital Adapter Review

Terk Xmdcpk Xm Direct Chrysler Smart Digital Adapter

It took Amazon 2 trys to get me the right product. At first they just sent me the interface. Had to email them, then they sent me the XM tuner and antenna.

Pulled out the RB4 factory navigation radio out of my HEMI Ram and hooked everything up. Hit the mode button and the screen came up on XM channel and I heard the preview channel. The only problem was I couldn't change the channel. Something with the interface doesn't control all the functions. As a test I pulled the RB4 and installed an RAZ factory CD/Tape deck and it worked perfect. Oh well...If only it worked with the navigation. It is a very cool product. Installed super easy and sounds way better than the XMs that run through the FM tuner.

Product Description:
If your new vehicle has a factory-installed XM satellite-ready radio, you're halfway on the path to enjoying more than 150 channels of all-digital satellite entertainment. Now you can finish the job with the Terk XM Direct adapter kit. Compatible with select Chrysler vehicles, this XM Direct kit includes everything you need to play XM over your compatible factory stereo--specifically, an XM universal tuner box, a roof-mount antenna, a smart digital adapter, and all the requisite cables. The components integrate directly with your XM satellite-ready car stereo, letting you control the XM features through your stereo's existing buttons and knobs.
The XM Direct is also notably compact, installing discreetly behind the dashboard to maintain an uncluttered appearance. Perhaps just as convenient are the plug-and-play connections, which make installation a breeze. The only slightly tricky item is the micro antenna, but even that is straightforward, with a magnetic mount that attaches securely to the outside of your vehicle. The adapter cable even includes a pass-through for keeping an extra component, such as a CD changer, connected to the system.
So why pay the dealer to install your XM radio system when you can do it yourself? The universal tuner box measures 3.81 by 4.38 by 1.38 inches (W x H x D) while the adapter checks in at 3.12 by 3.62 by 1.12 inches. The antenna cable, meanwhile, is 19.75 feet long. The bundle is backed by a one-year warranty.
Note: You must subscribe to XM satellite radio and own a Chrysler vehicle with a satellite-ready car stereo to use this adapter kit.
What's in the Box
Universal XM tuner, magnetic micro antenna with 19.75-foot cable, XM channel guide, smart digital adapter, 36-inch DIN cable, 15-inch cable harness, 37-inch RCA cable, quick start manual, installation guide.

I have two of these puppies and was sold with the 99.99 shipped a piece.
Tried these out and let me tell you they are ALMOST as good as the L7.
The L7 is still a better speaker [better built, better handling].
But this is still close.
I've juiced these twelves with KickerZX1000 and also RockfordTB1000.1
The Rockford outperformed the kicker in case you're wondering.
Great performance, great speaker, kicker amps not so much...

Alpine NVE P1 - Navigation system module Review

Alpine NVE P1 - Navigation system module
Average Reviews:

I bought this unit to add to my Alpine IVA-W505 which was the best Alpine head unit at the time. I'm very disappointed with the quality!!!! The graphics are worse than the original Nintendo!! Map information is from several years ago and no updates are yet available. The nav system crashes and resets itself often. And if you plan on traveling out of town it takes forever to load guidance info. It does work as a basic nav system but it really cheapens the look of your 1000 plus dollar head unit. If you have the money buy Alpine's dvd nav set up or if your on a budget get a standalone garman you'll be much happier!!

JVC In-Dash CD Player (KD-G210) (KD-G210) Review

JVC In-Dash CD Player

I got mine in the second week of september, had it installed at circuit city. It works awesome with mp3 CDs and the tags are wicked cool. I still get some great sound- even through just the stock speakers in my 97 Honda Accord.

This past weekend I was listening to mp3 CDs for about three hours straight for two days in a row. The cds were coming out very hot and started to skip a bit. I ejected them and let it run on the FM stations for a little while, and it worked fine again after I took a break from driving again, but the CD player part of the unit is super bitchy. Aside from that, it's an awesome piece of equipment. I got the two year warranty, so if it does completely melt down I'll be safe, but it's still not 5-star material.

Mintek MDP-5860 5-Inch Portable DVD Player Review

Mintek MDP-5860 5 inch Portable DVD Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This Mintek 5" portable DVD player has its drawbacks. Its small screen is best for individual viewing (two people, at most), the sound is thin, and its minimalist controls are awkward to use. However, this little machine has traveled everywhere with us without trouble. At a slim 5"x 5", not much bigger than a disc, this player can be tossed in a backpack or carry-on suitcase without taking much space. It comes with a car adaptor, a battery and charger, and a cord for household current. The battery life tends to last about one movie, so I tend to use it mostly with the car or the AC/DC adaptor even though running it off battery power performs just as well. The mechanism seems a little flimsy, especially compared to the full-size player I'm used to, so I don't recommend putting this in the hands of rough little ones.(My teenager has no trouble using it.)

For a relatively inexpensive and lightweight DVD player, the Mintek does its job.
